Children with disabilities in their care include primarily children with polio as well as ones with neurological disorders from birth and well as other children with facial deformities as a consequence of mal-nutrition. We plan to provide intensive rehabilitation and physiotherapy services for children with polio receiving surgery. These services will be provided before and after surgery as many of the children before arriving at the hospital from the outlying village of the country are too weak to undergo corrective surgery. Our program will also involve training of 80 mothers of the children for a two-week period at the hospital each year to help them care for their children when they move back to their homes. The program will fund the creation of training manuals, and each of the mothers will be responsible for educating other mothers in their communities when they go back home to their villages.
